Nice one Apple

Project Purple

I get this warning with my recent software update today explaining that if I have hacked my iPhone that this software update may permanently brick my phone. Well, I HAVE NOT messed with the phone software at all, HAVE NOT hacked it at all, and the update, while not permanently killing my phone, did however screw up the current software on the phone, gave me some strange error and forced me to do a factory restore on the device.

Halo added to Sketchpad

Project Purple

Just posted a project I've recently been working on. It's a study of circular shapes and colorful backgrounds. There is five pieces in the series, I will be adding to this as time goes on, it should be a fun exercise.

Time to rethink the Sketches

I've been adding more and more into the Sketchpad portion of my site lately and It's about at the point where some sense can be made of how it's shaping up. So far I can see the growing list breaking into three categories:

1. Graphic builds, I really enjoy doing these
2. Websites
3. And Miscellaneous section where I can throw whatever I want into this section such as a component of a larger piece that I was only a part of or the 3D Chair example that is currently in the list.

This is something I need to put a little more thought into but I believe this is the direction the scribbling of the Sketchpad are headed.

Oh, and more updates, Flower, a graphic build, and a mock-up site for the Johnstown Chiefs.

Just saw the Helvetica film

Just returned from the Helvetica film at the Regent Theater. It was an interesting and fun film and a great way to spend my post Steelers game Sunday.

Educational of the history of the font, designed by Max Miedinger and Eduard Hoffmann in Münchenstein, Switzerland, there were several interviews with some people at the type founder and some sketches and notes on the design process and revisions of the font's birth. The film also had some very funny and great lines such as "It's air. It's just there. You have to breathe so you have to use Helvetica" to a story David Carson told about being frustrated searching for an appropriately lame font to match the bad writing of a Bryan Ferry interview for the magazine Ray Gun, finally settling on Zapf Dingbats making the two-page spread literally unreadable.

In the end it was a very enjoyable film and I recommend go see it.

Went to Pittsburgh Penguin training camp today

Pens Training Camp, 2007

My Dad and I went to the Pens camp today at Southpointe (Day 3). It was a fun time, we got to see all the youngsters, Letang, Esposito, Goligoski and the rest of the bunch. I was really impressed by someone I never heard of before Mike Weaver, he was very quick on the puck. Malkin got a lot of ice time, Sykora has a great shot, and the ICEOPLEX is way too small to open camp up to the fans. The place was packed and a ton of people including myself had to park in the neighboring businesses parking lot.

Pitt Grambling Game

Saturday I went to the Pitt football game with my Dad and sister. Pitt won pretty easily over Grambling 34 - 10.

Pitt

Grambling is known for it's marching band which got loud applause during their performance. The band was huge, at least twice the members as their football team. I was a nice afternoon, raining but nice.
